New Flames Senior Team

The Swindon Skater Hockey Club has set up a Swindon Flames Senior Team, to ensure that there is opportunity for all players to participate in senior skater hockey in the future.

The team has been set up with immediate effect, in order to allow it to develop/prepare itself for the 2008 season, where subject to the teams wishes, entry will be sought into a recognised league. It is envisaged that there will be friendly fixtures organised between now and the start of the season. The team will be jointly managed by John BAYLISS and Nigel DAVIES, and the coaching duties will be undertaken by John DEVINE and Mark LANE.

The training sessions for July have been booked as follows:

Tuesday 3rd July – Grange Drive Community Centre  2030hrs – 21.30hrs

Tuesday 10th July – Grange Drive Community Centre  2030hrs – 21.30hrs

Tuesday 17th July – Grange Drive Community Centre  2030hrs – 21.30hrs

Tuesday 24th July – Grange Drive Community Centre  2030hrs – 21.30hrs

Tuesday 31st July – Grange Drive Community Centre  2030hrs – 21.30hrs

All players (seniors, juniors and top age youths born 1992 or earlier), whether or not already playing senior hockey elsewhere, are invited / eligible to attend the training sessions for the remainder of this season.

“The Club has been missing a senior team for several years, which has resulted in numerous players having to leave the sport on reaching the age of 18yrs” said Nigel Davies, the co-manager. “As a result of the Club developing its coaching strategy, we now have sufficient team coaches in place to make a senior team viable. This team will ensure that the success of the junior development programme at The Croft can continue and provide our promising up and coming youngsters the opportunity to play the sport into adulthood.”

Skater Hockey is an off-ice version of ice hockey, played in local sports halls. Like ice hockey, it is a contact sport, but is played with a ball as opposed to a puck. Both former skater hockey players and ice hockey players are welcome at the training sessions. For the latter, the costs of skater hockey are substantially less than those of ice hockey.

If you have any queries regarding the above, please do not hesitate to contact either John Bayliss (07970 719777) or Nigel Davies (07899 917572).

The remainder of Swindon Skater Hockey Club train at The Croft Recreation Centre on Friday evenings / Saturdays afternoons. They run a beginners session from 12:00hrs to 13:00hrs, where all players, regardless of experience or ability are welcome.
