Swindon Flames Junior team finished their season last weekend as league champions with decisive wins over 2nd and 3rd place teams Ash Avalanche and Shene Youngbloods.

Goalkeeper Dan Oldland and defenders conceded only 26 goals in 16 games to give an impressive goal difference of 199  goals.  Forwards and Great Britain teammates Laurie Hodge and Steve Osman (pictured below) were the league top goal scorers with over 100 goals between them.

Captain Sean Barnett said ‘ we’ve had a great team this year and we are looking forward to the Nationals in November.’

These lads are all good players and  have played at a high level, said Manager Kev Osman but as a team they are even better. All of the players have scored goals and two of the defenders, Sean Barnett and Phil Hodge, are in the league top 10 goal scorers. But to really judge a teams’ performance you need to look at the style of play and the number of assists given to players (an assist is a pass from a player to score a goal). All players have been credited with a high percentage of assists to goals – which is a real team perfomance.

The team also finished second in the international tournament held in Lugano. They were narrowly beaten 5-4 by Lugano in the final  which was the highest positioned achieved by Swindon in 6 years of Lugano competitions.
