Swindon Youth Flames 5 - Ash 3

Sunday 14th March  2010 @ Farnborough

Sunday saw the Swindon Flames Youth in action for their second game of the season as they faced off against Ash Avalanche at the Farnborough Leisure Centre.

The Flames went into the game looking to build on last week’s successful start to their 2010 league campaign but despite a confident, competent performance and always looking in control the Flames found it difficult to break down their opponents who gave a dogged defensive display and fought hard for every ball. Oliver Thompson opened the scoring after just over 4 minutes from a Jack Townsend assist. Another 4 minutes elapsed before Will Harding netted a second, again played in by Jack Townsend. Despite enjoying the majority of possession Ash broke away to score with over 6 minutes remaining in the half but despite continual pressure Flames could not add to the score and held a narrow advantage at the break.

The second period continued in the same fashion with Flames attacking almost continually without breaking through, although the Ash goal held a charmed life with several shots from Jack Townsend hitting the frame of the goal and also Ryan Couling going close. An individual goal from Alex Baker who skated from his own half eventually extended the lead and a second from Will Harding looked to have made the game safe but Ash again broke away to reduce the deficit. A second goal from Oliver Thompson restored the 3 goal margin but Ash again took advantage of some hesitancy in defence to score a third with just under 3 minutes remaining. Although the Flames comfortably saw out the end of the game the final score did not really reflect their superiority.
