SWINDON JUNIOR FLAMES TO REPRESENT GREAT BRITAIN IN 2008 EUROPEAN CUP. Swindon Skater Hockey Club are proud to announce that their Junior Flames (U-18’s) team have been invited to participate in this year’s iiSHF Junior European Cup, which is to be held in Essen, Germany at the end of May 2008. The invitation was issued by the sport’s international governing body, the iiSHF, as the result of the withdrawal of one of the two British teams who qualified for European duty at the 2007 British National Championships. The Flames, who were narrowly beaten in to third place at the Nationals, have been drafted as a replacement and the team will now represent the UK at this prestigious international competition along with the current British National Champions, Norton Cyclones. The iiSHF Junior European Cup is the top international club event for the sport and the Flames will be competing for honours against the top Junior teams from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark and The Netherlands. Club Chairman, Les Satchell, said “ To be invited to compete in this prestigious event is a fantastic honour for the club as a whole and for the Junior team in particular. Having established themselves as one of the top teams in the country this competition is a great opportunity to see how our Juniors measure up on the international stage and the whole club wish the Junior Flames the best of luck in Germany”. Skater Hockey is a fast, exciting team sport, similar to ice hockey, played in indoors sports halls using inline skates and a ball rather than a puck. Swindon Skater Hockey Club trains on Saturdays (or Friday evenings for the Juniors) at the Croft Recreation Centre where all new players, regardless of experience or ability, are always welcome. For those that wish to give it a try for the first time, the club runs a beginners session from 12.00hrs – 13.00hrs on Saturdays. The club can provide some loan equipment (helmets, gloves and sticks) for novices, on the day, but please bring your own skates. For further information please contact The Croft on 01793 526622 or visit www.swindonflames.com With the Junior Flames vying for honours in this year’s European Cup and in light of the recent expansion of the club through the formation of both a Senior side and an additional Peewee team there has never been a better time to become involved with The Flames and Swindon Skater Hockey Club would warmly welcome all and any support from local businesses and/or organisations. Should you wish to help The Flames, a local, not-for-profit, community-based, youth sports club through any form of sponsorship please contact John Bayliss at jc.bayliss@hotmail.co.uk
