GB Success for Flames Captain
Swindon Flames captain Craig Davies returned from the European U18s Inline Skater Hockey Championships with a silver medal with team Great Britain. The Championships were held in Stegersbach, Austria , over the weekend with all the top European Countries taking part. Two days of round robin competition saw team Great Britain record impressive wins against most of the teams, including the reigning champions Switzerland, setting up the gold medal clash with the German national team. Despite the earlier loss in the tournament against Germany, the final turned out to be one of the best matches that the European Championships have seen in many years. Germany won the thrilling final 8-7 (1-2, 6-2, 1-3) with the deciding goal coming in the very last minute. Craig’s team contribution throughout the weekend was recognised by his peers in being voted Players Player for the tournament. Craig Davies said “This has been a great tournament of the highest standard. The scores do not reflect how close each game actually was. I am really proud to have been selected to represent Great Britain and whilst I am disappointed to have lost in the last minute of the final, I am delighted to have come away with the silver medal. I would like to thank Swindon Borough Council and the Swindon Sports Forum for supporting this me this year.”
